whats eaxctly hits anyway?

Okay.. This might sound stupid .. I am pretty new in SEO and I understand what I am looking at in the web stats but I really would like to know what exactly the meaning of hits?

If I have 452 hits per day, what does it mean?

Thank you so much guys!

Normally that would mean that your site was 'hit' / 'requested' 452 times. Now most stats are going to show you two different stats per page:

- The first is hits that came from different ip addresses, and that means how many different surfers reached your site.

- The second would show how many hits in general the page got. This includes for example if a surfer hit your homepage, went to your forum page, and then clicked back to your homepage. In this case the homepage was hit 2 times, but from the same surfer.

Hope this helps,

Thank you gilgul for the answer.. I am beginning to get there... it seems that theres an overlapping meaning between visits and hits?

All this time my understanding of hits is, when someone just click our website

but visit is when someone surf up our website... is it correct?

The important one to go by is:

unique visitors

This will give you the best indication of how many people are looking at your site.

I have a client that likes to brag to his friends about how many hits he gets just because it sounds much more. LOL

Here is a better explenation of hits and visits:

Visits:

Visits are the number of unique visitors you had on your site. So if you have 200 Visits that means 200 people visited your website.

Hits:

Hits are counted from visitors, lets say one visitor that came to your site made 50 hits meaning he was on your site and viewed up to 50 pages or refreshed certain pages.

Hope this helps.
