Location of Recipical Links
I was just wondering where everyone place their recipical links when they trade links or submit to directories that require recipical links. I don't really want to clutter up my site with links that I don't really feel are all that good, and I certianly don't want to be considered a link farm. I'm sure this is a common problem, and I would love to hear peoples solutions, because there are quite a few directories out there that I would like to be in that require a recip.
Any suggestions?

Hi,
Put them anywhere but a page called link.htm, and avoid the title "reciprocal links page".
I don't have many, but I put mine on a "travel-ideas.htm" and "recommended.html" for the two sites in my sig file.
With more than 100+ links many people use links 1 2 3 etc. but I would suggest that you might want to think about a directory, with well-structured categories, so it becomes a useful resource for your visitors too.
Cheers,
Paz.

Is it worth it to exchange links with some of these directories, or does it just cheapen your site?

Hi,
it depends on the directory.... there are some quality, niche directories there that might well be useful for your visitors. Experience and common sense will tell you whether or not this is the case, but the main criteria I would use are:
Is the directory well-structured with logical categories and sub categories, and tightly edited with no spam or sites clearly in an inappropriate category?
Is it easy to navigate the site by browsing?
Is there a useful site search function?
Are there any features that allow visitors to provide feedback on listings (such as "rate this site")? etc.
You're right, the quality of your site is paramount, but if you might find the directory a useful resource, then your users probably would too. Then (and only then) I would reciprocate.
Cheers,
Paz.

People normally request the link exchange directory to be linked from the homepage or as close as possible. Not buried in deep levels.
I agree that if you do it nicely, broken down by topics, it can look nice.
You won't seem a linkfarm if you trade links with topic related sites and avoid PPC (pills, porn and casinos ).

So maybe the best thing to do is just have a seperate directory of related sites that I can add any good recipical links to that is organized by category.
This SEO stuff can sure be involved.
Thanks.

Yep, I think that's the right way to do it. Make sure the categories are related with the activity of your site, split the pages enough to avoid them looking too busy and link to the directory (if possible) from the home page.

sounds good and people like to have their links within 2 clicks away from main page and no more...
